Studying in the Czech Republic: Zeynep Yıldırım’s Journey in Prague

As you walk through the historic streets of Prague, it's hard not to notice the mix of gothic architecture and students hurrying to their lectures. Among them is Zeynep Yıldırım, whose academic journey from Turkey to the Czech Republic is not just a story of education, but one of personal growth and transformation.

Zeynep was admitted to Charles University’s International Relations undergraduate program in 2021. Taught entirely in English, the program has not only introduced her to a variety of cultures but also enabled her to develop a broader perspective on global politics. The academic atmosphere in Prague, which encourages critical thinking and intellectual independence, has significantly improved her research and academic writing skills.

One of the aspects Zeynep highlights is the student-friendly environment of the Czech Republic. “Life here is both affordable and safe, especially for students,” she explains, adding that public transportation, housing, and social life are accessible and well-structured. Thanks to student discounts, she regularly visits museums, attends cultural events, and participates in international seminars organized by the university.

Beyond academics, Zeynep emphasizes how much she has grown socially. Living and studying with students from different backgrounds has helped her improve her language skills and develop a greater sense of empathy and tolerance. With an active student community in Prague, she’s had the opportunity to get involved in various extracurricular activities. Being part of the Erasmus network has also allowed her to engage with students and academics across Europe.

As she approaches the end of her third year, Zeynep feels that she has evolved beyond being just a student. She now sees herself as a global citizen, open to diverse cultural perspectives. After graduation, she hopes to intern at international organizations such as the United Nations or the European Commission and plans to pursue a master’s degree to further her academic career.

Zeynep Yıldırım’s story serves as an inspiring example for many students considering education abroad. Her journey through Prague’s rich historical and academic landscape opens doors not only to a diploma but to a broader, more inclusive worldview.
